WHAT WE DO

Distressed Debt

For more than 30 years, Bellmore Partners has acquired secured and unsecured distressed debt across market cycles.

We buy debt that has stopped performing—where a borrower has defaulted, payments have stopped, or a judgment has gone uncollected, and the holder would rather have cash now than spend years chasing it.

Every position is underwritten on the strength of the collateral and a clear-eyed view of how it gets resolved, not on a forecast of where markets are headed. We buy with our own capital and we close on our own timeline.

If you are holding debt that isn't paying

You do not need to be a bank or a fund to sell us a position. We regularly buy from private lenders, small banks and credit unions, family offices, individuals, contractors and suppliers, judgment creditors, estates, and businesses that were never paid.

What we typically look at:

If you are not certain what you are holding, send us what you have — the note, the mortgage, the judgment, a statement, or simply a description — and we will tell you whether it is something we buy.

We only purchase secured debt which is backed by real property. Because recovery is anchored to that collateral, we underwrite on asset value, lien priority, and the legal path to enforcement rather than on the borrower's financial condition alone. Our experience lets us price these positions quickly and accurately, including complex, contested, or partially documented files.

Unsecured debt in bankruptcy carries no specific collateral, so the analysis shifts to counterparty risk, the realistic path to recovery through negotiation or legal process, and portfolio-level diversification. We apply the same rigor we bring to secured positions, grounded in recovery paths rather than assumptions about the market.

How a sale works

  1. 1

Send us the file. Email what you have, or call and describe it. No cost and no obligation.

  2. 2

We review it. We assess the collateral, the documentation, and the realistic path to recovery.

  3. 3

We make an offer. A firm price, typically within a few business days, with the reasoning behind it explained.

  4. 4

We close. Funds are wired and the assignment is executed and recorded.

Every inquiry is treated as confidential. We will sign a non-disclosure agreement on request, and we do not contact your borrower before closing.
